The Mansions of Halkida

The red house, symbol of Halkida is a manor house on the edge of the beach. The prominent position makes it stand out and attract the attention of visitors. The red house was built in 1884 by Constantine nomomichaniko Flegga to a study by French engineer Flengis.

Purchased in 1890 by the merchant kings Mallios. Impressive is how the building is mounted on the rock that is surrounded by three quarters by the sea. The house is on two floors and has over thirty rooms. The main entrance is on the inside while the whole building is U-shaped.

The corners are built with stone blocks and windows to the entrance are marble and form top pediment. Next to the building there are auxiliary rooms and garden.

The year 1916 and for about six months at home hosted the King of Serbia Peter by following the occupation because of the state of the Germans. During the Greek-war house was used by the Germans as a command post.

Today the red house belongs to the municipality where after many years of radical renovation and reconstruction of the adjacent spaces, it's ready to be given use. Today houses the hearth knowledge and culture of the municipality.

The mansion is located on the beach of Halkida opposite the red house. Built in 1891 while owner was Demetrius Mallios.

It is a two storey building with basement and large terraces on the upper floor. On the roof of the building there are four statues Pillar two with female figure and two antique. At the entrance, there is a marble staircase that leads to a large wooden door with marble surroundings. Upstairs there are two marble balconies one above the entrance and the other on the south side.

Inside there is a large hallway with impressive marble staircase leads upstairs. Around the corridor are large rooms with fireplace and windows. What attracts attention in this building is the impressive decoration of. Plaster, paintings, marble and wood are everywhere in the house. But the simatikotero all that make the house with separate statues are painted wooden ceilings of.

In the early 80's was bought by the municipality and in the early 90s began the restoration of the which lasted about six years. Today the mansion has been granted by the municipality at the Lyceum of Greek Women and the company Evia studies and is a jewel in the city's beach.

THE MANSION OF WOOL

The Kriezoteio Tsavella located on the street behind the church of Agios Dimitrios. The construction is estimated in the early 18th century. This building was one of the 2000 seraglios of admirals and generals of the region.

From findings of the area proves that in this area there was a majestic Arabian building destroyed at an unknown date. Portions of this building with arabesques, are currently in the yard of St. Demetrios Church. The mansion survives today is part of a larger

complex housing Omer Pasha, the last Turkish military commander of Evia. Between 1830 and 1833 the building was purchased by Nicholas Kriezotis hero in 1821 when he proageto to colonel and Nomoepitheoriti Evia.

The mansion after fleeing Nikolaos Kriezotis in Turkey in 1847 passed into the hands of his descendants, who built additions outbuildings and made several changes mainly in the yard. In 1976 after the death of the last descendant, the mansion was bought by OTE and in September 1982 passed into the hands of the municipality.

The municipality with a number of projects and restorations made from 1982 tried to save the mansion as the previous owners had been left neglected and misoereipomeno. Today in Kriezotis restored mansion houses the historical city center and file Euboean

research.
