Monastery of St George Ilion

The church was built near or on an ancient temple of Apollo, who was also named Sun (hence the name of the village Elijah). There was the oracle of Apollo Selinountas. On the walls of the monastery distinguished capitals and other pieces of ancient buildings. The iconostasis of the church is carved and dates back to 1834.

The wealth of the monastery was the reason for the raids of the Turks.

The last was in 1821, when it was destroyed many valuable relics.
